Stainless Steel PipeYour steel projects have to suffer drawbacks and faults if you don’t have good understanding and knowledge of best steel that got suitable for your project. This article helps you in knowing and understanding steel types that would help you to avoid resource wasting on materials, additional processing costs, and save times. Without wasting time, let us know about steel types and what is the main difference between them?

Stainless Steel types:

Given below are the most common stainless steel types available in the industry for executing applications appropriately-

Hot rolled steel-

The name itself tells that this type of steel is manufactured using steel rolling process that got followed by heat. Under high temperature, the steel undergoes rolling process over 1000 degree F that’s above re-crystallization temperature. Thus the formation of hot-rolled steel is a lot much easier and as a result of this, the product works great. However, the main drawback is that the hot rolled steel comprises of less strength in comparison to counterparts.

At room temperature, hot rolled steel is agreed to be cool. Thus this gives off a polished finished product with loose tolerance compared to initial material. The finished product got free from stresses such as internal stresses which can be raised in case of work-hardening or quenching processes.

The hot rolled steel is more malleable and it can be easily cast in various shapes thus making it best and the right choice for sheet metal product as well as structural components like rail tracks and i-beams.

Cold rolled steel-

At closer to room temperature, the steel rolling process gives off cold rolled steel. The cold rolled steel includes flat sheet and coils rolling products. The hot rolled sheet then goes under processing so as to form required shape. Added effect related to strength is imparted and the finished product comprises of improved or enhanced mechanical properties via work hardening.

The finished product creation is done through the cold rolling process so as to give a precise dimension compared to the hot rolled product. That’s why during rolling processes, the melting of steel doesn’t take place, unlike the hot steel.

The cold rolled steels are known to be less malleable compared to hot rolled steel thus making it limited to fewer shapes. However, small transverse dimensions and uniform cross-section can be obtained into desired shapes through shaping operations.

For better finishing, this cold rolled steel is best used. The cold rolled steel has common applications such as it got used for construction works and automotive parts.

Cold Drawn Steel-

Similar to cold rolled steel, the cold drawn steel is also processed. Here, at room temperature, the hot rolled steel, and hot rolled bars are lowered down. Then at this temperature, the steel got rolled and hammered thus it fits through dies and then pulling of dying is taken place so as to thinner steel shape without any alteration in volume.

The cold drawn steel has got improved tensile strength and it has a better surface with visually aesthetic appearance.

You can take decision onto which steel type your project will serve you the most.
