Monel 400 bars – Monel is an alloy that is primarily composed of copper and nickel and small amount of carbon iron, manganese and silicon content. This alloy is stronger than the pure nickel and is resistant to corrosion with different agents which includes flowing seawater. This type of alloy can easily be fabricated by cold working, hot working, welding, and machining. Monel was first created by the Robert Crooks Stanley, who has worked for international nickel company in the year 1901. Well, Monel 400 is known as a binary alloy that consists of copper and nickel in the same proportions because it was found in the nickel ore from Ontario Sudbury mines that is why is known as a puritan alloy.

Properties of Monel Metal

Monel metal is very much expensive whose cost ranges from 5 to 10 times than the cost of nickel and copper. Well, if we talk about the properties of this metal, it is mutually soluble in proportions. When compared to other steels, it is easy to machine and work-hardens. It needs to be worked and turned at low feed rates and low speeds. Furthermore, it has excellent strength and is resistant to corrosion with the corrosive condition and can easily withstand in high and elevated temperature and environment. It is widely used in those applications that are used in the highly corrosive condition.

Monel 400 alloy has 8.80 of gravity and 1300-1350°C of melting range as well as 34% of electrical conductivity. It is known best for its toughness and maintains its quality at a higher range of temperature. Well, this alloy even consists of excellent mechanical properties. It even has high tensile strength, hardness, and ductility. Well, there are several products made using Monel 400 alloy such as pipes, bars, and sheets. So, let’s know the features of each Monel 400 alloy products like Monel 400 Sheets, Monel 400 Bars and Monel 400 Pipes.

Monel 400 sheets

  • Corrosion resistance to chemical and marine environments
  • Freedom from corrosion cracking and chloride induced stress
  • Good mechanical properties at 550°C
  • Approved for various pressure vessels at a temperature up to 900°F
  • Good weldability and workability

Monel 400 bars

  • excellent strength
  • hardness
  • long functional life
  • used at a high and elevated temperature up to 480°C
  • excellent workability

Monel 400 pipes

  • hardness
  • high strength to withstand in extreme temperature
  • ductility
  • corrosion resistant
  • long functional life

So, these are the features of Monel 400 products. Thus, Monel 400 alloy shows excellent corrosion resistance and high strength in alkaline and acidic environments. This kind of metal has thermal conductivity and good ductility and used in various applications like hydro-carbon processing, marine engineering, heat exchangers and pumps. These Monel 400 products are manufactured by top and leading manufacturers who make uses of international and national standards and specifications. Furthermore, Monel 400 alloy covers various standards like BS 3075, NA 3076, ASTM B164 and DTD204B.

Thus, you can easily use Monel 400 alloy in any kind of equipment and applications that are used in reducing environment as sustain and maintain their quality for a long time and offer better performance
